First impressions of your CV – a lasting impression or the last?

Most recruiters will have already decided whether you are a Yes or a No in the first 10 seconds of reading a CV.

A typical recruiter, and let’s face it that is who we need to impress, will usually have a huge pile of CVs to read through

from their advertising, and they will want to complete the task as quickly as possible.

This means they will only spend time on CVs which tell them what they want to know easily and without too

much effort, and reject those that they have to search through for the information.

If the first thing they see is a spelling mistake, a CV that is too long, or job descriptions which are too wordy,

the likelihood is that their “No thanks” pile will get higher.
